Nyaka’s founder, Jackson Kiguri is a CNN Hero, a successful entrepreneur, and a globally-recognized leader. His programs include earned income, public partnerships, deep community ties and proven, long term impact for the children he serves.

“A great marketing director. That is the first thing I would do with new money. But no one will pay for this”.

the problem:

Nyaka’s funding sources are primarily major individual donors with occasional repeat support from family foundations. Most funding is restricted to program expenses. As 2014 closed, Jackson faced a gap in his budget and two critical needs – to complete the infrastructure for a new school; and to hire a marketing director to build tools and platforms that will significantly increase awareness of and funding for Nyaka.

our opportunity:

Provide Jackson with the capital and the tools to hire a marketing director who, in turn, will increase funding for Nyaka’s programs; increase enrollment in Nyaka and Kutamba schools; and increase visibility of Nyaka’s community programs within the communities and share the story of the revenue generating models already operating within Nyaka’s work.

our grant:

In 2014, Orphan Opportunity Fund provided a $20,000 grant to Nyaka. We secured a 100% match for our grant in advance and worked with Jackson to build a donor matching campaign among his existing major donors to reach his goals. He exceeded the 2014 fundraising goals, securing the funds to complete the school and begin the search for the innovative, entrepreneurial, Uganda-based marketing director he needs.
